Concept of Word Game! AGES 4+

Can you stack a cube for every word you hear in the sentence? Now let’s write the sentence and circle all the words. Research suggests that only when a student can point to individual words accurately within a line of text will they be able to learn new words while reading. Incorporating concept of word instruction into daily literacy practice will not only strengthen students’ speech-to-print match, it will also develop students’ alphabet knowledge, phonemic awareness, and knowledge of words in print.

Read a sentence and have the child stack one cube for every word they hear. Listening comprehension is a key to reading comprehension and written composition.

Next write the sentence and have the child circle all the words. Counting Words is a phonological awareness activity that allows children to discern the words in sentences.
