Shape Cookie Match! Ages 2+

This is a fun activity to put in a sensory bin or large container.  Great way to work on shape matching, naming and talking about shape attributes.  The wood circles come blank so you can draw any shape, letter or numbers that you want on them.

Materials:
2-inch wood circles
Magnet Tape
Metal Pans
Rice (dyed with food coloring)
Glass nuggets

First draw shapes on the wood circles with a sharpie or marker.  Put a piece of magnet tape on the back of the wood circles.

Next make a photo copy of them (If you don’t have a copier you can draw the shapes on a piece of paper).  Tape the paper to the metal pan.

In your sensory bin or large container add rice ( we put blue food coloring on our rice), glass nuggets and wood circles. You can hide the shapes in the rice.

Then have kids find the wood circles with the shapes and match them to the shapes on the pan.  As they match the shapes ask them questions.  What shape is that? How many sides does that shape have? How many corners does that shape have?
