Playing is fun and learning can be too!

Apple and Worm Rhyming Cards

Rhyming is an aspect of phonemic awareness (awareness of how to listen to, identify, and change around the sounds in spoken language). Phonemic awareness lays the groundwork for written language. Rhyming is a precursor to learning how to read and write.

This printable includes 16 matching pairs.

Print and cut out the apple and worm rhyming cards.  Then mix them up and spread them out on the floor or table.   Next help the apples find the worms they rhyme with.  You can also play this game outside! Spread the cards out around your yard.

Use fewer matches to make it easier. For more of a challenge, turn the cards face down and play as a rhyming memory game.
