Letter Box Match! Ages 3+

This is an easy DIY letter matching game.  Alphabet knowledge is an important Pre- Reading skill.  Knowing letter names is strongly related to children’s ability to remember the forms of written words and their ability to treat words as sequences of letters.

Materials:
Box
Piece of construction paper
Tape or glue
Something to write with
Box Cutter or Scissor
Craft Sticks

First you need to cover the top of a box with a piece of construction paper.

Next draw 26 lines on your box.  I measured the lines to be the width of the stick. Then use a box cutter or scissor to cut the lines.

Next write uppercase letters on the box under the lines.  Then write lower case letters on craft sticks.

Have your child match the lowercase letters to the uppercase letters.  When your child gets really good at matching the letters. You can work on the letter sounds as they match the letters.

Here is a video of Kysen doing the activity!
